Description

The product of sale is a universal conversion kit for a small electric vehicle based on a classic 4" motor and a controller that can operate in a very wide range of input voltages 24-48V (it switches automatically)

Motors of this type are used in hundreds of typical electric scooters, and the kit sold here can be used to repair or build one of these scooters, go-karts, trolleys, electric bikes (roller drive) and many other vehicles in which such a motor will be an excellent source of drive.

The motor has a typical M12 axle which is the easiest to install on any fork / swingarm.

It contains the engine, controller and throttle accelerator, i.e. all the basic elements, apart from the power supply, that enable the construction of an electric vehicle. The engine, controller and lever cables should be soldered (connectors do not provide reliable connections and are a frequent cause of failure)

The kit includes:

  • Motor (used)
  • Controller (new)
  • Throttle (new)

Motor data:

Power supply: 24V, 36V, 48V
Current consumption: 15A
Rated power: 250W
Instantaneous maximum power: 24V -> 435W, 36V -> 630W, 48V -> 810W
Motor Kv: 37
Motor mounting distance (dropout): 72mm
Motor axle: M12 thread, 10mm butted (standard motor axle)
Driving speed: 24V -> max 25km / h, 36V -> max 32km / h, 48V -> max 40km / h
Weight: 1.85 kg
Black colour
Motor diameter: 4"

Accelerator handle data:

Shifter type: thumb, hall effect
Mounting: 22.2mm diameter handlebar (typical handlebar)
Cable length: 1.2 m

Controller data:

Power supply: 24V, 36V, 48V (switches automatically)
Current consumption: 15A
Rated power: 250W
Instantaneous maximum power: 24V -> 435W, 36V -> 630W, 48V -> 810W
Dimensions: 40 x 60 x 120 mm
Weight: 200g
Functions: Reverse, cruise control, 3 maximum speed settings, brake handle input

Detailed description of the controller cables:

Black [GND], Red [+ BAT] - Main power supply of the controller + ignition switch. The connection of the thick red + BAT and the thin red wire of the ignition switch activates the controller. Between the two red ones you can put a button or a key switch to be able to turn the installation on and off.
Red, Violet - Ignition wires, short circuit starts the controller
Blue, Yellow, Green (thick) - Engine power
Black [GND], Red [+ 5V], Blue [signal], Yellow [signal], Green [signal] - Hall sensors in the engine
Black [GND], Red [+ 5V], Green [SIGNAL] [BLACK PLUG Male] - Throttle
Yellow [signal] - Brake-Hi - brake activation by applying 12V to this wire (from the DC / DC converter)
White [signal], Black [GND] - Brake-Low - brake activation by connecting the wires, i.e. ground [GND] from the black wire to the white wire (e.g. through the brake handle contactors with a sensor)
Black [GND], red [+ BAT] (thin wires) - power supply for the purposes of an alarm or battery voltage indicator
White, White - Controller self learning mode. See description below.
Orange, Black [WHITE PLUG] - Cruise control, a momentary short circuit activates the cruise control. The lever disables the cruise control.
Brown, Black [WHITE PLUG] - short circuit changes the direction of travel.
Orange - Black - Blue - 3 speed switching. Connection [Orange - Black] = Speed3 - fastest, [Wires open] = Speed2 - medium, [Black-Blue] = Speed1 - slowest.
Yellow-green - 5V rectangular signal for the needs of the speedometer (usually connected to a watt-meter or other computer or to universal displays

To turn on the controller: The controller is activated by shorting the Red + Violet wires (described as "Ignition") in the controller harness. This can be done through a jumper made of a piece of wire, but a better idea is to mount a switch, button or key switch on these wires. The controller itself remains connected to the battery all the time through the main power cables, and the controller is turned on and off by shorting the ignition switch wires.

Calibrating the motor: during the first start-up, the kit must be calibrated (set up). It is performed using the White + White wires in the controller. The procedure is described below.

  • Make sure motor and controller are connected with all wires (3 phase + 5 halls) according to the colors
  • Make sure the controller is connected to the battery
  • Turn on the ignition (short circuit Red + Purple)
  • Connect the White + White calibration wires together, the motor should start spinning by itself. Let it spin for a minimum of 5 seconds.

Attention:

1.If the engine turns in the correct direction (forward) - open the White-White calibration wires and check by giving the speed on the throttle whether the change has been saved. The engine should be running properly
2.If the motor turns in the wrong direction (reverse) - open the White-White calibration hoses and reconnect them. The motor will reverse and should spin forward. Open the White-White calibration hoses and check by giving speed on the throttle that the change has been saved. The engine should be running properly.
